Welcome to the Port Washington Athletic Hall of Fame webpage. We will be updating information as we begin our journey to honor those athletes, coaches and community members who have supported and made Port Washington High School's athletic programs what they are today.
Mission Statement:
The Hall of Fame award will recognize and honor outstanding achievements of individual athletes, coaches, and friends who have contributed to the success, tradition, integrity, development and promotion of Port Washington High School athletics.
Athletic Hall of Fame Committee:
The Athletic Hall of Fame committee shall establish policies and procedures to guide the operations of the Athletic Hall of Fame program. Members will be appointed by the Port Washington High School Activities Director.
Selection Process:
There will be three categories of recipients to be considered for this honor.
1. Student Athletes
2. Coaches
3. Distinguished Contributors
Student Athletes Nomination Criteria
- Must be a graduate of Port Washington High School.
- The nominee must have graduated a minimum of ten years ago.
- Exceptional individual accomplishments within a sport (e.g. all-state selection, state championships, all-conference, state records, school records).
- Significant contributions made to the success of a team (e.g. team state championship, team conference championship, team records).
- Strong moral character and good citizenship throughout the athlete’s life.
*Note: Beyond these criteria, having individual and team success in multiple sports is valued and post-graduate distinction in sports will be given strong consideration.
Coaches Nomination Criteria
- The coach must have been a contracted coach at Port Washington High School.
- Age 55 or older.
- Excellence in coaching (e.g. record, conference championships, state competitions, team state championships, individuals coached who earned state championships, etc).
- Contributions to the positive development of students and demonstration of special care and concern for the development of student-athletes.
- Demonstration of good character and citizenship are valued.
- Varsity coaching responsibilities over an extended period of time and/or coaching in multiple sports.
- Contributions to the Port Washington-Saukville community, the conference, and the coach’s state association are valued.
Distinguished Contributors Nomination Criteria
Provisions are made for individuals who are not otherwise qualified as a student athlete or coach, but have in other ways shown devotion to and helped support or bring recognition to the athletic program of Port Washington High School.
- Individual who has made, or continues to make, significant contributions to Port Washington High School’s athletics & activities in roles other than participation in or coaching a sport (e.g. employees of the Port Washington Saukville School District, alumni, community members).
- The Nominee may still be a current contributor of Port Washington High School athletics.
- Longevity of contributions of time and energy in support of Port Washington High School athletics is valued.
- Modeling of sportsmanship and dedication, while inspiring similar traits in others is valued.
- Strong moral character and good citizenship.
- Projects that have made an impact on Port Washington High School Athletics.
*The Athletic Hall of Fame committee will accept nominations that have successfully met the criteria in the mission statement and completed the Athletic Hall of Fame nomination application form. The Athletic Hall of Fame committee will be responsible for selecting the inductees.
**All nominees that meet the criteria will remain in the nominee pool for 3 years.
***The Athletic Hall of Fame committee reserves the right to remove any athletic hall of fame inductee if they fail to continue to meet the criteria of our mission statement.
Annual Time-Line
Nominations:
The Athletic Hall of Fame committee will be accepting nominations through April of each year.
Review:
The Athletic Hall of Fame Committee will review all nominations for their validity to the mission statement and will request further information if needed during the month of May. For any nomination that fails to meet the mission statement, an email informing the nominator will be sent.
By July of the current year, the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee will then convene to select the inductees.
Announcement:
By the first week in August, of the current year, inductees will be announced and letters to all nominees will sent notifying them of their status in the nominee pool. A biography, picture(s) and mementos request will also be sent to each inductee at this time.
Hall of Fame Banquet:
The Hall of Fame banquet will be held at Port Washington High School on a Saturday in September coinciding with a home Friday night football game. Inductees will be announced during halftime at the home football game.
Each inductee will be allowed 4 guests to the banquet dinner at no charge. Any additional family, friends or community members who would like to join the banquet dinner event will need to purchase a meal ticket using the GoFan link below.
