The mission of the TJMS PBIS team is to foster and promote a safe and positive school environment that enhances student learning through the Jaguar Way by teaching and recognizing positive behaviors of Respect, Responsibility, and Safety.
RESPECTFUL

RESPONSIBLE

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is a process for creating school environments that are more predictable and effective for achieving academic and social goals.  PBIS will enhance our current systems and practices, as well as change our culture for the better.

How Does PBIS Work?

PBIS focuses on clear expectations, consistency, prevention, and collectively looking at data.  The majority of students follow the expectations established by the school, and we are committed to acknowledging  and rewarding positive behaviors.  TJMS has established expected behaviors for our varied environments.  Through continued instruction, visuals,  and staff modeling, our students understand these expectations. When a student does not behave in a positive way, we look at it as an opportunity to re-teach and learn from it.  If the behaviors are chronic or warrants a referral, staff will follow  our systematic approach and process using our behavior discipline flow chart.

Rewarding Expected Behaviors

PAW TICKETS
Students earn paw tickets by following the expected behaviors in varied environments. We reference data to target environment areas that need re-teaching.

SCHOOL STORE
Every Friday, students are able to use their paw tickets to purchase items at our school store during lunch.

MONTHLY RAFFLES
Students are able to use their paw tickets to enter into monthly raffles.

SCHOOL-WIDE CELEBRATIONS
We believe in celebrating the Jaguar Way together with our entire school. We hold our Jaguar Jamboree, a student vs. staff basketball game and play Minute to Win It games.

School Store

TJMS has a School Store, which is run by our PBIS committee. The students earn “Paw” tickets throughout their school day by demonstrating positive behaviors, and they can spend their Paw tickets on items that are for sale at the store. Behaviors that warrant earning Paw tickets include demonstrating kindness and responsibility. We stock the School Store with two categories of items. One is general school supplies, including computer mice, earbuds, staplers, rulers, pencil sharpeners, pens, and pencils. The other category are gadgets such as sensory items, magnetic games, rubix cubes, art supplies, gift certificates, and other fun items.

PBIS at Home

     > Review the Jaguar Way with your child.
     > Ask your child to give examples of how they were Respectful, Kind, and Responsible at school.
     > Ensure your child is ready for learning by getting a good night's sleep and a nutritious breakfast.
     > Provide a quiet time and space for your child to complete their homework.
     > Stay updated with your child's grades on Infinite Campus.
     > Keep in communication with your child's teachers.
     > Encourage and model the Jaguar Way at home and in the community.
